OPINION
Wolves fans were not getting too downbeat despite their team slipping to a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City that was inevitable from the moment Willy Boly was sent off after 19 minutes when his side were 1-0 down. That ruined the televised Premier League clash as a spectacle, and left the visitors in damage limitation mode for the remainder of the encounter. One man who seized his opportunity was Leander Dendoncker, the Belgian signed from Anderlecht last summer for £12million but subsequently barely seen. Dendoncker was handed just his second league start of the season at Etihad Stadium and had to drop back from his central midfield slot to fill in at centre-back following Boly’s dismissal. Despite the scoreline, the six-times international was extremely impressive, looking assured and commanding in the middle of the three-man back line that Nuno Espirito Santo favours. Wolves will lose Boly to a suspension, but have a ready-made replacement to hand.

If there’s one positive to take from tonight, it’s Leander Dendoncker. Especially when he was in defence, he was rock solid. Can’t justify not starting him at the moment.

Some of the goals were disappointing but it was always going to be a hard task and defending for a lot of the game at 10 men I thought we was alright. Dendoncker was superb and should play CB for Boly. Adama did well on his own imo and tried his very best.

If nuno doesn't start dendoncker now for the rest of the season, he wants sacking for that alone.

Dendoncker was good there for 70 mins – he will play there for next 3 games no doubt

Here’s a consolation from #MCIWOL – we’ve learnt that Leander Dendoncker’s pretty great at centre back.

Dendoncker was a massive positive. Looks a real class act who is gonna get better with every game. Looks worth every penny of that £12m

I like Dendoncker, he was our best player at the back. Moutinho probably our best player but yeah. Bit of a silly desperate looking challenge considering where on the pitch it was but big Willy gets a pass.

Dendoncker is showing why we signed him. There’s a lot of players who aren’t good enough for where we’re going but will see us through until we are there.

Dendoncker was magnificent.
He's part of Nuno's dream… #wwfc https://t.co/7LnA7TkViN— Robin Marchesi (@robinmarchesi) January 14, 2019
