Wolves midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White was tipped for big things when he came on to the scene not too long ago.

He was excellent in the team’s win over Chelsea few months ago, and has excelled for the Midlands-based outfit ever since – when he has been selected, anyway.

However, that could not have been further from the truth on Saturday during the 2-2 draw with League One’s Shrewsbury Town in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The 19-year-old was completely anonymous until he was substituted late on in the second half, and he failed to make any sort of impact on the result.

Considering this was the youngster’s first start for Wolves since Boxing Day, you would have thought that he would have rose to the occasion and showed manager Nuno Espirito Santo exactly what he has been missing for the past month.

Instead, we got a player who looked like the complete opposite to that, and that is no doubt worrying for Gibbs-White personally – but then again, there is no excuse for such poor displays.

He needs to play out of his skin as soon as possible, as his first team chances at Molineux are going to slowly dwindle if he does not get out of first gear any time soon.

The fans know he has the potential to be a fantastic player, and once that is fully unleashed, then he will be virtually unstoppable – but this outing has showed that his inexperience can often get the better of him.

What is even more concerning is that it was against a team who are two divisions below Wolves, and that is simply not good enough.

The first teamer – whose appearances have largely come off the bench this season – needs to step up to the plate as soon as possible, or his chance will become even fewer as the season continues.
