Wolves are in talks over a deal for Stoke international full-back Moritz Bauer, according to Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett.

He claims that it will likely be a loan deal for the rest of the season, but claims it’s a surprise as Bauer hasn’t played for Stoke since September.

The right-back, known for his pace down the flanks, would come in as cover for Matt Doherty.

Dorsett made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Tuesday morning.

OPINION

Bauer hasn’t played since September after a falling out with Stoke manager Gary Rowett. He was accused of undermining team spirit in the Stoke Sentinel but he looks like he might get a lifeline at Wolves. The 26-year-old speedster has six caps for Austria and would provide good, solid cover for Doherty, who is himself one of the key players for Wolves this season. Bauer doesn’t have the same attacking prowess of Doherty though, and hasn’t actually scored a single goal in his career. He’s only registered 10 assists in his time in 223 games. Doherty, by way of contrast, has scored 25 goals and registered 37 assists in 303 games, including three goals and four assists in 22 Premier League games this season. Wolves are also reportedly on the lookout for a new striker in January, despite the good form of Raul Jimenez and losing out on Chelsea hitman Tammy Abraham. Callum Wilson is being heavily linked with a move away from Bournemouth this January but he will come with a massive fee – possibly as much as £75million.
