Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to offer Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham a contract offer worth £120,000-a-week, according to The Sun.

The newspaper report that Wolves are keen on signing the 21-year-old forward in an £18million deal, although they may have to take him on an initial loan.

The Sun claim that Abraham, who is currently on loan at Aston Villa, is earning £42,500-a-week at Chelsea, but would be in line to make more than £6million-a-year at Molineux.

Good move for Wolves?

In footballing terms, yes.

Abraham is a hungry, young 6’3″ striker [Transfermarkt] in red-hot form who could come in and bring Wolves the one thing they have been missing this season: efficiency in front of goal.

However, in financial terms, this deal looks to be far too excessive.

Abraham is a brilliant young player who could well go on to play at the top level for years to come, but is he really worth £120,000-a-week already? He may be in brilliant form this season, but his mediocre season at Swansea suggests he still has some way to go at Premier League level.

Likely to happen?

It looks like Wolves are trying hard to sign Abraham, although they will likely have to wait to sign him permanently.

Chelsea are reportedly against letting him leave for good this month, and an initial loan will therefore have to take place before a potential summer deal.

Wolves are also having to wait on FIFA approval for the deal to go through, with Abraham having already played for Villa and Chelsea (in the Community Shield and at Under-23 level).

It is hoped that the governing body will rule that his Chelsea appearances were not competitive, which would allow him to move to Wolves this month.
