Wolves are keen on Monaco midfielder Pele and could offload Adama Traore to Middlesbrough to ease pressure on their budget, according to the Daily Mirror.

The national newspaper’s live transfer blog (Saturday January 19th, 23:12) claim that the Monaco midfield enforcer was linked to a move to Wolves in the summer but ended up moving to France instead.

The Mirror report that Pele’s agent Jorge Mendes could prove to be key to any move to Wolves and that he wants to move his client on from Monaco due to his chances to feature being limited.

Good move for Wolves?

Not overly.

Wolves would benefit from a talented midfield enforcer from Pele but if they have to off-load Traore to Middlesbrough to help their budget cope with the new addition, it might not be worth it.

While the speedster would be welcomed back to Boro by Tony Pulis with opening arms, it might not be time for Wolves to give up on him just yet.

Traore has only scored one goal, while assisting one, in his 21 outings for Wolves this season and the question marks that he is Premier League quality as a result, but at the age of 22-years-old he deserves to be given more time to impress.

If that has to come at the expense of a move for Pele then so be it as while he is talented, there must be reason why he has managed to feature only 11 times for Monaco this season.

Likely to happen?

Mendes’ connection to Wolves is known and well documented so you can’t rule this deal out, given that it’s a client of the super agent that is involved.

Also it’s very believable that Middlesbrough are keen on snatching any chance they have to bring Traore back to the club as he would really boost their promotion campaign in the second half of the season.

However with a lot of variables in play regarding this deal, until an offer is confirmed, there should be doubts about whether it will happen.

Then there’s the fact that it does seem a lot of work for Wolves to get done in January, so perhaps this is one for the summer and they could change the stance on binning Traore by the time they’re due to act.
