Tottenham are ready to recall defender Cameron Carter-Vickers from his loan spell at Swansea City and send him to Wigan Athletic, according to TEAMtalk.

The outlet claims that the United States of America international, who is currently plying his trade at the Liberty Stadium, could soon be heading for the North-West instead.

A number of teams are said to have expressed an interest in the 21-year-old, but the Latics are thought to be at the head of the queue for a man who has previously had loan spells at Sheffield United and Ipswich Town.

Carter-Vickers has made 11 appearances in an uneven campaign in Wales, seemingly not a high enough number for Spurs.

Good move for Tottenham?

This is an interesting one. Tottenham obviously prize Carter-Vickers’ development and want him to be playing regular football so that he can progress as quickly as possible. That’s not quite happened with Graham Potter’s side, though. He seems to be in the team one week and then out of it the next and that’s clearly not good enough for Spurs. Whether it’s worth disrupting his season by sending him somewhere else is a matter of opinion, but Tottenham appear to feel that the juice isn’t worth the squeeze for Carter-Vickers at Swansea. Wigan would be a good place for him, though, because Paul Cook gets the best out of his players and would likely aid his development significantly.

Likely to happen?

It certainly sounds as if Tottenham are set on this course of action, so there’s no reason why this won’t happen. There are plenty of teams interested so if it’s not Wigan it will be someone else.
