West Ham are set to lodge a £13.3million bid for Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek, according to talkSPORT.

The broadcaster, who first reported the news last Thursday that Marko Arnautovic wanted to quit the club, now claim the Hammers are lining up an offer for his potential replacement.

As reported by their Twitter account on Wednesday morning, talksSPORT claim West Ham are preparing to move for the 23-year-old Piatek.

OPINION

Reports in Italy have claimed Genoa have slapped a £40million asking price on Piatek. Who can blame the Serie A club after the Hammers shelled out more than that to prise Felipe Anderson from Lazio last summer? Piatek has emerged this season as a goal machine in a major league, and his haul of 19 goals from 21 matches for Genoa since signing from Cracovia Kraków last summer for around £4million is proof of a player going places. That said, the Pole is hardly Robert Lewandowski. Not yet. He has made just two appearances for Poland and this season is his first in one of Europe’s handful of elite leagues. Would he be able to cut it in the Premier League? Can he fill the mighty big boots of Arnautovic? Certainly, West Ham need a striker, as the likelihood grows that the giant Austrian will have left London Stadium by the end of the month, if not the end of the week, if reports are anything to go by.
