Valencia boss Marcelino has confirmed that the La Liga club hold an interest in West Ham striker Javier Hernandez.

The Mexico international has been heavily linked with Valencia throughout the January window, with Hernandez said to be keen on a move to find regular first-team football.

Marcelino has now confirmed that Valencia are interested in a deal for Hernandez this month, and claimed that the player himself is keen on the switch.

Speaking on Friday, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo, he said: “Chicharito is an option because he doesn’t play much and is in favour of coming, but the situation is complicated.

“My information is that West Ham are only considering a permanent sale, but my job is to put a team out. I’m not the one who decides whether or not to buy players.”

Good move for West Ham?

No.

Hernandez may not be playing that regularly but he is still a key squad member for Manuel Pellegrini, and it is no wonder that the Hammers are reluctant to let him leave.

The striker is a crucial player for the Irons as he provides quality back-up to Marko Arnautovic up front, and with the Austrian’s future up in the air, keeping hold of Hernandez is even more important.

Likely to happen?

No.

West Ham are obviously keen to keep hold of Hernandez, with Pellegrini clearly well aware of how important the 30-year-old is for his team.

Valencia on the other hand do not look keen on splashing the cash, therefore it looks like Hernandez will have to stick around until the summer at the very least.
