Oxford ready to bide his time over West Ham exit

|

West Ham are pushing for versatile defender Reece Oxford to make a move to Germany but find themselves at odds with the 20-year-old who wants to remain in England, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Hammers want the 6’2″ (source: Transfermarkt) giant to head to mainland Europe as they look to seal his exit this month but that the powerhouse is willing to bide his time and not leave until the summer when he hopes London rivals Arsenal will make a move for his signature.

It is stated that the Gunners might have to wait until the end of the season to make any signings due to their financial status.

Good move for West Ham?

You can totally understand why the Hammers are keen on sending him a little further away than north London.

He might not have lived up to expectation in recent seasons but at just 20 he has plenty of potential and the Irons would not want lightning to strike twice and see another young talent flourish at a rival Premier League side – as has happened with Domingos Quina at Watford.

Out of favour and with little chance of regaining his place in the first team any time soon, cashing in makes perfect sense.

Sending him to Germany, where he has already picked up game time on loan, gets him away from the spotlight and will not highlight what could be a mistake for West Ham.

Likely to happen?

This all falls down to the player himself and what he wants to do.

It sounds like England is his preferred destination and it could well be that he turns down any moves abroad in order to force his way to a rival of the Hammers.
