West Ham are in talks with Czech Republic side Viktoria Plzen over signing midfielder Patrik Hrosovsky, according to Diario AS.

The Spanish football outlet claim that the Hammers are already trying to negotiate a deal for the 26-year-old Slovakian international but that other teams such as Stuttgrat are also thought to be keen.

Diario AS report that Hrosovsky could change clubs in January and would cost 4.5million euros (£3.9million) if he was to be sold in this window.

Good move for West Ham?

Possibly, given his price tag it isn’t going to be a risk to sign him.

When you consider that £3.9million will hardly get you anywhere in today’s transfer market then the Hammers may be onto a winner by checking out Hrosovsky.

After all the central midfielder has 21 international caps for Slovakia and that is a reflection of his quality as it’s not easy to be regularly called up by his nation.

Therefore when you consider the Hammers could just do with adding some depth to their midfield options, going after a potential bargain like Hrosovsky seems a realistic solution to that.

Likely to happen?

There’s a very good chance it will, even if the story is emerging from Spain’s AS publication rather than a British tabloid.

The Hammers are discussing a deal which shows they are pushing forward with a pursuit of Hrosovsky but they are set to face competition for his signature based on AS’ report.

However it does seem that they are leading the chase ahead of others with them already having made progress by being in talks.

Also with the price being so low, then it’s easy to believe the London club will happily invest £3.9m in bolster Manuel Pellegrini’s midfield options even after they spent big in the summer.
