With Mark Noble starting on the bench, Pedro Obiang was given the task of partnering man-of-the-moment Declan Rice in central midfield for West Ham’s 2-2 draw against Brighton on Wednesday night. It did not reflect well on the Equatorial Guinea international that the Hammers 2-0 down at home when he was withdrawn after 63 minutes of the match. Six minutes later, Noble had made a major impact and Marko Arnautovic had scored twice to rescue a point for the Irons. Supporters were unhappy with the performance of Obiang, making his ninth league start of the campaign. Not unreasonably, they claimed his performance was “atrocious” and he has “regressed dreadfully” in recent times. The days when he was being linked with a move to Liverpool now appear an awfully long time ago for the former Sampdoria player, who looked the weakest link in the Hammers side against Brighton.
