Tottenham chief Daniel Levy wants to move into the club’s new stadium as soon as possible as he panics over the financial deal which is allowing the club to play their home games at Wembley this season, according to the Evening Standard.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Lilywhites and the Football Association reached an agreement which would see the club pay significantly more than the £500,000-a-game that it cost last season for the use of the national stadium this campaign, with the earliest move in date set to be March.

Not mentioning mention Champions League and domestic cup matches, the club’s 19 Premier League home games last season would have cost the club £9.5million and that Levy is concerned behind the scenes with the increased deal which was agreed to continue using Wembley as their temporary ground.

Opinion

This stadium saga is turning into an absolute shambles for Spurs, who are haemorrhaging money not only on building their new stadium but having somewhere to play their games in the meantime. No wonder Levy is worried about the development of the ground, for every time the club play at Wembley it is over half a million pounds out of the club’s coffers – which is no doubt why the Lilywhites have not pursued any big money signings of late. This really does need to be sorted out sooner rather than later, not only to save some money but also to save face. There is no doubting everyone involved at Spurs, Levy especially, is embarrassed with how things have turned out and the only saving grace is that their new home looks and sounds like it will be a sensational venue. However, at what cost, both on a financial and personal level, will it come at?
