Man United have held opening talks with Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino about taking over at Old Trafford in the summer, according to Caught Offside.

They say nothing has been agreed yet but claim that from early negotiations “it’s clear” that Pochettino is ready to leave Spurs and join Man United.

However, Manchester are expecting Tottenham head honcho Daniel Levy to play “hardball”.

The report also claims that Pochettino has already talked to Ed Woodward about transfer targets at Man United, with Leicester’s James Maddison high on his list.

He sees him as being his new Christian Eriksen and believes the £70m fee will be acceptable to Man United.

Pochettino signed a five-year contract in May said to be worth up to £163,000-a-week (£8.5million a year).

OPINION

This doesn’t make good reading for Tottenham fans. The rumours around Pochettino and a possible move to Man United are getting louder all the time and this report gives very specific information. The fact that he’s already discussing transfer targets like James Maddison will make for particularly bad reading for Spurs fans who will be desperate to hold onto the manager that has transformed their team. However, one of the biggest arguments against him going to United was the disarray in their team. Unfortunately for Tottenham fans, their new interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given the lie to that already, winning four games on the bounce and transforming the Mourinho side into a fast, attacking out fit with a completely transformed Paul Pogba. The United job has been looking more and more attractive with every game that Solskjaer has been in charge and they could even make the top-four now and offer Pochettino Champions League football.
