Tottenham must act now if they want any chance of signing Eljif Elmas from Fenerbahce after there has been a reported development in the race for him.

According to Tuttomercatoweb Lazio and Borussia Dortmund have both joined the already packed hunt for the 6ft tall 19-year-old (Source: Transfermarkt) with great force which implies their not going to waste time not making a move for him.

The Italian news outlet claim that while both know competition for Elmas is strong, they intend to try to be his next destination at the very least.

Calciomercato  also added that Lazio perhaps had extra motivation in their pursuit of the talented teenager due to identifying him as the ideal long-term replacement of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and given how talented the 23-year-old is that is no easy task.

This means Spurs need to make a move sooner rather than later if they have plans to win the race for Elmas after being credited with an interest in him.

Turkish outlet Skopje24 claimed in December that Spurs were keen on the versatile midfielder and that there was a £20.5million release clause in the player’s contract.

While Elmas isn’t the marquee signing Spurs fans dream of, giving that he has impressed in his 25 outings for Fenerbahce this season and can play on the left-flank as a well as in a central position in midfield, he could do a job for Mauricio Pochettino.

Also the teenager due to his age clearly is only set to get better with the right guidance and the current Spurs boss does have a knack for nurturing young talent to see players fulfil their potential.

However given that Lazio and Borussia Dortmund appear to have entered the race determined if Tottenham want any chance of making the 19-year-old theirs then they can’t afford to wait around.
