Tottenham are in hot pursuit of Hoffenheim midfielder Florian Grillitsch as a potential replacement for Mousa Dembele, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claim on their live transfer blog (10/01, 13:20) that the 23-year-old Austrian has been watched by the Lilywhites for both club and country this season and that they eye him as someone to take the place of their Belgian enforcer, who looks set to leave this month.

It is stated that the 6’1″ (source: Transfermarkt) star, who has played 20 times, including in six Champions Leauge matches, this season, has a release clause of £18million.

Good move for Tottenham?

An experienced international with room to grow and who has been playing at the top level of European club football this season? He ticks every single box for Spurs, other than not being English.

At £18million he could prove to be a real bargain and it is a surprise not more clubs are chasing his capture this month.

With Dembele nearly out the exit door this move needs to happen sooner rather than later in order to give him time to bed into the side, but having been playing regularly for the German outfit he should have no trouble doing so whatsoever.

Likely to happen?

A release clause means that if Spurs really want him, he is probably theirs to take.

The price tag is reasonable, he would likely want the opportunity to shine in England at a Champions League side operating at a higher level than his current club, not to mention take on the challenge that is the Premier League.

Having watched him, Spurs know what he has to offer and the fact they are still chasing him shows he is a real target for the Lilywhites.
