OPINION

Tottenham fans will have thick heads today as they digest the disappointment and frustration of a second cup defeat in four days to leave their slim trophy hopes resting on winning the first Champions League in their history. Sunday’s 2-0 FA Cup loss to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park provided clear proof of how the squad is running on empty after coping manfully for so long with a never-ending injury list. It did not help deal with the pain of defeat to Palace that ex-Spur Andros Townsend scored the winning goal with a penalty. As far as Lilywhites were concerned, at least their club’s academy prospect did not twist the knife further by launching into a celebration. Instead, he kept his powder dry and explained on his personal Twitter account afterwards that was out of “respect” for the club where he spent 16 years as man and boy. Tottenham fans certainly appreciated the gesture and many hailed his abilities with comments such as “proper player” and “wish you were here”.
