Tottenham have launched a bid to sign Leeds United forward Jack Clarke, according to Football Insider.

The reliable site claim the London-based giants have been blown away by the 18-year-old since he was fast-tracked into the first team of the Championship leaders.

Football Insider report Tottenham are set to “pounce” this month for Clarke at a time when Leeds have shelved new contract talks for the player until the end of the season.

Good move for Spurs?

Clarke has a profile that is right up the Londoners’ street. He is young – the United academy product only turned 18 in November – richly talented and has the potential to play at the highest level. The teenager has made a huge impact at United since being fast-tracked into the first team by Marcelo Bielsa. He has predominantly been used as an impact substitute and only made his first league start in last Friday’s 2-0 win over Derby County. That match was dominated by spygate but the Spurs scouts cannot fail to have been impressed by Clarke, who set up both of Leeds’ goals and ran the visiting defence ragged with his pace and skill. A wide forward, he is bursting with potential and could be dynamite under Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching staff.

Likely to happen?

It is intriguing that Leeds have put talks over a new Clarke contract on hold until the end of the season. That has opened the door to interest in the rising star. Spurs are likely to have to fend off interest from top-flight rivals if they’re to win the race for the signature of Clarke, who is getting all the big boys excited.
