Outspoken broadcaster and proud Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has launched a fuming rant over Tottenham fans as he rejects any notion they are a side to be reckoned with due to their lack of top flight titles.

The Lilywhites were last champions of England back in 1961, their second league title in their history and after a barren spell have found themselves back among the chasing pack, currently sitting third in the division.

However Morgan is not impressed with the Spurs fans who suggest that their side are anything special, insisting that it is their silverware which matters.

He said on talkSPORT: “Apparently, it’s all changed, they’re now world beaters. Really? Come back to me if you win the league in my lifetime Tottenham fans.

“I can’t take any more of it. I really can’t. I’ll take it from (Manchester) United fans. I’ll take it from (Manchester) City fans. If Liverpool deservedly win the league this year, I’ll take it from them.

“But I will not take any lectures on football from Tottenham fans given their team has not won the league in my lifetime.”

Opinion

This ought to give plenty of Tottenham fans a chuckle. Yes, Morgan is known for being an outspoken individual and he is likely just saying what he is to get a reaction from the Lilywhites faithful but the truth is the club’s recent rise up into the elite of English is surely getting under the skin of their north London rivals. There is no doubting who have been the more impressive side in recent years – Spurs dazzling on both the domestic and European stage – while Arsenal have found themselves languishing on the fringes of the top four. Tottenham are not going to win a title any time soon unless they invest heavily into their squad but with the new stadium their future does look incredibly bright. If they can remain in the top four while spending less than their rivals then that is an achievement in itself. The real aim though is to break the leading duo of Manchester City and Liverpool – all while staying ahead of Arsenal.
