Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker has praised Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks after his last-gasp winner secured a 2-1 victory over Fulham on Sunday.

The England international arrived on the scene in the 93rd minute to power Spurs to victory with a header, and Lineker was very impressed with the youngster.

“You can always rely on Harry to win it for Tottenham,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account instantly after the game. The comment, while being one of Lineker’s usual attempts at humour on the social media platform, does hit the nail on the head.

Obviously Harry Kane is usually the Harry winning games for Spurs, but on this occasion it was Winks who kept his cool to ensure that his side left Craven Cottage with all three points.

OPINION

What a massive moment this might turn out to be for Tottenham this season. With Kane injured, Son Heung-min away on international duty and Dele Alli sidelined during the game, somebody needed to step up for Spurs. The smart money would have been on Christian Eriksen or Fernando Llorente to deliver, but it was Winks who came through when his team most needed him at the death. The 22-year-old is having a wonderful season and this was merely the continuation of that. He is a vital part of this Tottenham team now, there’s no doubt about it. He is the fulcrum in the middle of midfield for Spurs. Lineker was a fan of his late winner and there will be many Tottenham supporters who will be as well. Hopefully Winks and Tottenham can build on this moment and use it as motivation over the rest of the season.
