Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has suggested that Tottenham should stay at Wembley for the rest of this season rather than move into the new White Hart Lane.

Spurs’ move into their new ground has been repeatedly delayed this campaign, and Jordan believes that making the transition now makes no sense.

Speaking on talkSPORT, when asked if they should move, he said: “I think if they do it would be a foolish thing to do.

“They are where they are right now, they’re 50% through the season, they’re in a successful season for a variety of reasons – performing well in the Premier League, performing well in the cups, in the Champions League.

“They should just draw a line under it. Take the pain now, take the ridicule that will come because segments of the media and their own fans will say it’s not good enough, but they are building a phenomenal stadium.”

OPINION

At this stage, Jordan might actually be right. There’s obviously a great desire to get into the new ground, from the club and its fans alike, but it would be a strange decision to move halfway through a season, especially when Spurs are doing so well at Wembley. The more measured and logical approach to take would be take their time, get the new stadium up to the standard they want, and then start afresh at the beginning of the next campaign. Patience is a virtue, and for all they’ll  be itching to start playing at their new home, it will be so much sweeter if they are prepared to wait for it. There’d be something really special about a new season, under the glorious August sunshine, in the best ground in England, kicking off and knowing that it’s been worth the wait. Plus if they can go all the way in the FA Cup, it would be some send off to Wembley to finally lift a trophy under Mauricio Pochettino.
