Spanish giants Real Madrid have held preliminary talks with the representatives of Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen with a major deal on the cards for the player, according to the Independent.

The newspaper claim that the La Liga side’s people have been in touch with the Danish playmaker’s team as they look to raid Spurs for his services, the Lilywhites currently engaged in a contract struggle with his deal expiring in the summer of 2020.

It is stated that were he to refuse to sign a new contract in north London, with the club open to wages up to £250,000-a-week, Spurs would look for a massive fee of £100million for his sale, while Real Madrid could offer up their own playmaker Isco as a makeweight to seal a switch.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich are said to be keen on Eriksen’s capture as the heat builds, although the maestro’s preferred move is believed to be to Spain.

Good move for Tottenham?

At £100million or a deal involving Isco, there is actually very little for Spurs to complain about. Yes, Eriksen might be their talisman in midfield but the Spaniard has proven himself to be a top quality talent and one who would surely flourish in the Premier League.

A big money deal would also be welcomed if Eriksen has no plans to stay at the club, giving Mauricio Pochettino the chance to splash some cash and strengthen his side.

While losing Eriksen would be disappointing, Tottenham are not going to let him go without it suiting them, so it might not be the worst thing in the world.

Likely to happen?

There is plenty of work to be done on every level of a deal for Eriksen, who could well still commit his future to the Lilywhites.

This is an awful lot of speculation and while there is no smoke without fire, there is no crystal ball to tell us what is going to happen in the future.

One to watch with great interest, that is for sure.
