Clive Allen shared that he thought Tottenham could cope without Harry Kane and claimed it would be unwise for his former side to splash the cash on replacing him.

The 57-year-old old who scored impressive 60 goals in 105 outings for Spurs when playing for them delivered his surprise verdict on the London club’s latest blow and issued them a warning as a a result.

“I think they can cope,” stated Allen while on talkSPORT, with his quotes uploaded to the stations’ official Twitter account.

“I think it would be unwise to really splash out heavily at this moment of time.”

Spurs confirmed via their official Twitter account on Tuesday that Kane was not expected to return to training until March after damaging his ankle ligaments in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United.

OPINION

It’s quite a surprise that there is someone urging Tottenham to lock away their wallet as it seems a safe assumption to say most Spurs supporters want to see their side splash the cash. While Spurs don’t want to be reckless and buy for the sake of it, you can argue that they need to sign a new forward ahead of Kane getting an injury. With no disrespect meant to Fernando Llorente, the obvious back-up to Kane, he cannot be relied upon to be prolific in the Premier League based on his form for Spurs. Kane is in need of someone helping him score the goals needed to bring success to the club and while there are goals in other positions for Spurs, it doesn’t mean they don’t need a clinical forward leading the way. The 25-year-old has scored 20 goals in 31 appearances this season alone and it would be impressive if Mauricio Pochettino was able to keep his side firing on all cylinders without Kane to call upon.
