Tottenham could have to fork out £20million if they want to sign Hull City sensation Jarrod Bowen this month, according to Sky Sports News.

The broadcaster claim, as cited by their live transfer blog (Wednesday, 10.29am), that the north Londoners are in hot pursuit of the 22-year-old after watching him “closely in recent matches”.

Sky report Tottenham face competition from Burnley for the right-winger in the January window.

Good move for Spurs?

Spurs’ pursuit of Bowen makes sense. He fits the profile of the Londoners, who don’t have the financial resources to fork out £62million on a renowned world talent, as Chelsea have done by signing Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund today. Tottenham are in the market for rough diamonds, and especially English ones, as they look to increase their home-grown players quota after falling short in this season’s Champions League. Bowen is an exciting talent who is mobile, direct and has a real eye for goal. He has been central to Hull’s excellent recent run of results and has scored doubles in three of his side’s last seven league matches, including at Elland Road against Championship leaders Leeds United last weekend.

Likely to happen?

It’s hard to see Spurs shelling out £20million-plus for a Championship winger, even though Bowen is clearly a rising star with the potential to make the step up to the Premier League. That said, don’t rule out a deal at around half that price, and perhaps a Dele Alli-style loan back for the remainder of the season.
