Graeme Souness slammed Everton attacker Cenk Tosun after witnessing the forward play in the 1-0 loss to Leicester City on Tuesday.

The Sky Sports pundit shared that he didn’t think the 27-year-old forward had proven to be valued for money for the Toffees and shared that he was coming up short in regards to expectations.

Souness made the remarks when analysing whether Tosun should have scored after having an opportunity to have a free header at goal during the defeat to the Foxes.

“Tosun I don’t think is value for money at this present time as you think you signed someone from outside the UK or outside England, he’ll take time to adjust to the game then we will have a look at him,” said Souness on Sky Sports Main Event (Tuesday January 1st, 14:42).

“I think it’s a year now he has been here, so he has had a good chance to look what is expected of him and he is coming up short.”

OPINION

There will be number of Everton fans nodding in agreement after hearing Souness’ remarks as Tosun hasn’t delivered what was expected of him. The attacker was brought to the club last January in order to boost the Toffees’ goal threat but he has only managed seven goals in 30 outings for the club. The Toffees clearly thought he could be a clinical forward in the Premier League when deciding to invest in his services but clearly time has proven them wrong. While it would be harsh to completely write Tosun’s Goodison Park future off as it stands, as he has shown rare glimpses of his talent, he clearly needs to up his game quickly. Football can be harsh at times and if Marco Silva doesn’t kick Tosun out the door in January then you feel that unless the scenario changes, the attacker is heading for a summer exit one way or another. Though it’s worth pointing out that while Souness went in hard on Tosun, he wasn’t the only player to let Silva down on Tuesday.
