French giants Paris Saint-Germain could offer Tottenham Belgian fullback Thomas Meunier to Tottenham in a swap bid involving the 27-year-old’s international compatriot Toby Alderweireld this summer, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Ligue 1 heavyweights are keen on signing the centre back after Spurs chose to trigger his contract clause which opens up the opportunity for prospective suitors to sign him for £25million in the summer.

It is stated that PSG are in the good books of Tottenham chief Daniel Levy after building a positive relationship during the deals for Serge Aurier and Lucas Moura, and that they could offer up 36 cap Meunier in a swap deal.

Good move for Tottenham?

Losing Alderweireld is always going to be a bitter pill to swallow for Spurs, especially for a fee of around £25million – but having Meunier as a makeweight certainly sweetens the deal.

He is an experienced head on both the domestic and international stage and would help soften the blow of losing his international teammate quite significantly.

The question that needs to be asked is do Spurs really need another right back at their disposal, with Kieran Trippier, Serge Aurier and the young Kyle Walker-Peters already battling for a role.

The answer is quite simply no and so unless one of the trio were to leave, signing Meunier for Alderweireld would be a waste of time and money.

Likely to happen?

Spurs certainly seem as though they could sell up to PSG considering their recent history and they would much rather he heads to France than remains in the Premier League, where he could come back to bite them.

Meunier does not tick a lot of boxes but another player being offered up could help Tottenham green light a swap, so do not rule this one out.
