Tottenham are in the hunt to sign Liverpool attacker Divock Origi as they weight up forward reinforcements this month, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The newspaper claim Mauricio Pochettino will not panic buy following the injury that has ruled Harry Kane out for two months, but were already on the search for replacements for Fernando Llorente.

The Telegraph report Origi, 23, “is the right age and profile and only has 18 months remaining on his contract”, and also mention West Brom’s Jay Rodriguez and Hull City’s Jarred Bowen as possible targets.

OPINION

Origi has made only five appearances for Liverpool this season after spending last season on loan in the Bundesliga, but a series of brief cameos have showed he can still live up to the immense potential he displayed during the club’s memorable run to the Europa League final in Jurgen Klopp’s first season. The striker’s pace, power and eye for goal are attractive qualities for elite teams in need of a front man, and there is a sense that he can explode if given a run of games in a side of quality players. Origi would have to think long and hard about joining Spurs, though, given Kane’s main-man status. Filling in now and again is not what he needs at this time in his career. The 26-times Belgium international needs a club where he can get more game time than he is getting at Liverpool, where their fab front three are blocking his route to a starting spot. Spurs’ pursuit of Origi makes sense, but it is hard to see them signing him this month.
