Newcastle United are trying to finalise four deadline-day deals, according to a reliable journalist.
The Daily Telegraph’s north-east correspondent Luke Edwards reported on his personal Twitter account that he has been told the club are attempting to rush through a series of transfers today (Thursday).
He explained two of those are “definitely happening”, which are certain to be the soon-to-be-announced signings of playmaker Miguel Almiron and left-back Antonio Barreca, and suggested another could be extending the season-long loan of striker Salomon Rondon.
I’m told #nufc were trying to do four deals today. Two we know are definitely happening, as for the others, well extending Rondon’s loan may or may not be part of that. Whether they happen or not ????

OPINION
From famine to feast. Newcastle fans rubbing their eyes at the landmark win over Manchester City and a blizzard of late-window activity that means the signings of Almiron and Barreca are all but done will be in meltdown if the club go on to secure four deadline-day deals. Two is pretty impressive for a club who have been so apathetic and cautious for so long, especially when it comes to recruitment, but four would make St James’ Park roar to a level not heard for some time. Certainly, it would go down well if Newcastle extended the loan of Rondon, who was integral to their win over City and has made a big impression leading the line for the club in recent months. Supporters appreciate his commitment and ability to make life difficult for even the best defenders. A haul of six goals and three assists from 18 league matches this season is quite impressive for a side fighting against relegation. Significantly, all of those goals have contributed to wins or draws for the team.
