Newcastle must make a move to bring Yohan Cabaye back to St. James’ Park this January to help them escape relegation.

The French midfielder left Tyneside in 2014 to join French champions PSG, much to the disappointment of the Toon faithful.

Since then he returned to England with Crystal Palace before making a shock move to UAE side Al-Nasr last summer.

According to the Mirror (15.13), however, Cabaye is already looking for a route out of the Arabian league, and Rafa Benitez must make sure that he can provide a homecoming for the 32-year-old.

Cabaye was far and away Newcastle’s best player during his spell at the club, and fans were gutted when he was allowed to leave. While he has aged and may lack some of the physicality he once had, he still possesses a killer eye for a pass and ability in abundance.

The Magpies are desperately short in the middle of the park, with Isaac Hayden and Sean Longstaff forced to start against Chelsea at the weekend, and Cabaye would be ideal man to bring in alongside Jonjo Shelvey and Ki Sung-Yueng, when he returns from international duty.

The ex-France international knows the club well, and would provide kind of leadership the Toon Army are so desperately lacking.

It really is a no brainer.
