COMMENTARY
Tuesday night against Blackburn Rovers might have only been Sean Longstaff’s fifth senior appearance for the Magpies this season but what an impressive talent the 21-year-old appears to be. He has an exceptional engine in the middle of the pitch and that sort of stamina makes him such an asset for the Magpies. Not only does he have bags of stamina but he also has the technical quality to unlock opposition defences and a desire to do the dirty work when out of possession. It is really easy to forget that it was Longstaff who actually opened the scoring at Ewood Park with a deflected long range effort and that is testament to how impressive every other aspect of his game was. Newcastle fans have waited a long, long time for a homegrown talent to make the grade, Paul Dummett the last academy graduate to break into the first team and stay there, but it appears as though Longstaff has got a bright future ahead of him. The fans already love him – one naming him as better than 11-time Premier League winner Paul Scholes – and if the youngster continues like this he is going to become a hero at St James’ Park.
