Newcastle United midfielder Kenedy will not have his current loan deal terminated early, according to the Chronicle.

The newspaper reports on their website that the 22-year-old is set to see out the remainder of his loan stint with the Magpies until the end of the season after Rafa Benitez previously toyed with the idea of sending him back to Chelsea – in order to make space for another loan move.

However, the report adds that the Spaniard has had a change of heart regarding the 6ft [Transfermarkt] player, as he thinks that he can still help the Brazilian fulfil his potential after a series of poor displays.

OPINION

Based on Kenedy’s recent form for the club, Benitez’ u-turn does not appear to be a good one. He has been dropped from the starting XI due his poor form, and by the looks of it, he is not going to be recalled any time soon unless he can prove he is good enough. He has been incredibly disappointing at this stage of the season – so this decision will no doubt be a huge risk for Benitez. Kenedy does look like he will be staying at Newcastle for the rest of the season, as Benitez has had a sudden change of heart – so the likelihood of him leaving now is very minimal. Yes, the manager had considered terminating his loan early due to his poor displays, but perhaps he wanted to give Kenedy one more chance to prove himself. Either way, Kenedy looks to be staying, which will no doubt disappoint the majority of Newcastle fans.
