A pair of consortiums interested in sealing a takeover deal for Newcastle United could join forces in a potentially game changing development for the Magpies, according to journalist Lee Ryder.

The Chronicle reporter has hinted on his personal Twitter account that parties fronted by former Manchester United and Chelsea chief Peter Kenyon and business executive Garry Cook are considering partnering up in a bid to take charge of the club from current owner Mike Ashley.

Such a development would likely see the newly-formed consortium have many more funds at their disposal to try and meet the asking price set on the club by Ashley.

This would be a huge boost in the Toon Army’s hopes of seeing Ashley out the door sooner rather than later but it does add a number of complications to a prospective deal. Not only would the two parties have to agree to terms between themselves but they would then have to enter negotiations with Ashley, who has proven to be a tough nut to crack when it comes to money. What it does do is give the potential investors more funds among themselves to inject into the club and thus see more success for less outlay. It would likely delay a takeover deal for some time but at the same time give more chance of something actually happening, rather than seeing their efforts peter out into nothing. One for the Toon Army to keep a seriously close eye on, but they should not be holding their breath over anything happening soon.
