Newcastle United have been dealt a blow in the market after being knocked back in their pursuit of Sevilla midfielder Ibrahim Amadou, according to Foot Mercato.

The French football outlet report that the Magpies, Fulham and Stuttgart have all enquired about the 25-year-old destroyer, who has played a bit-part role in Seville since joining from Lille in the summer.

Foot Mercato claim however that both Sevilla and Amadou are not keen on an exit this month, with the midfielder putting in an impressive display against Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey in midweek.

Good move for Newcastle United?

Yes, this would be a brilliant move for the Magpies.

Amadou may have had to bide his time in La Liga so far, but the 25-year-old is a supremely talented midfielder who will no doubt force his way into a regular starting position soon.

Bringing in a player like Amadou, who is also comfortable playing at centre-back, would be a huge coup for Newcastle this month.

Likely to happen?

No.

As reported, both Sevilla and the player himself are not keen on a departure this month, even if it was just a loan.

Newcastle will now have to look elsewhere in their search as the window ticks towards a close in six days time.
