Agent’s fees preventing Almiron deal

|

Newcastle United’s pursuit of Miguel Almiron is being held up by the player’s agent’s fees, according to the Daily Mail.

The Magpies have been heavily linked with a move for the Paraguayan international this January, as reported by the Chronicle, but the deal has a stumbling block in recent weeks.

The 24-year-old was named the MLS’ MVP last season, and is said to have been identified as the ideal man to bring a much needed creative spark to Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle side, but it is understood that excessive demands from the player’s agent is holding up any potential agreement.

According to the Mail, the Almiron’s representative is looking for a seven figure fee of around £4million.

OPINION

If Miguel Almiron’s agent is trying to hold a club to ransom, he’s picked the wrong team in Newcastle United. Mike Ashley’s not the kind of guy to be taken for a ride financially, and Toon fans will attest readily to his stingy ways. The Magpies are in a bit of a predicament at the moment. They need to spend to bring in the sort of players who can keep them up, but these players don’t come cheap, and Ashley, as has been said, doesn’t part with money easily. It will get to a point where the owner wipes his hands of the whole situation and starts looking at alternative targets, and that would be a shame for both Almiron and Newcastle. He could become a cult hero on Tyneside, and it would be an ideal place for him to make a name for himself, but he has to realise that he may need to drop his demands.
