Newcastle United have made contact over signing Lyon attacker Martin Terrier, according to L’Equipe.

The French publication claims that the Magpies have previously observed the 6ft tall winger (Source: Transfermarkt) on several occasions and have now inquired about his availability.

L’Equipe report that Lyon is not willing to sell a player and even though the idea of a six-month loan has been put forward, the Champions League side do not seem willing to let him go.

It is believed that Benitez is convinced about Terrier’s potential with the versatile attacker able to play as a No.9 or on the left flank.

Good Move for Newcastle?

Yes, especially if they can get him on loan first.

The 21-year-old attacker has a lot of competition for a starting place at Lyon and it’s a testament to his ability that he has still managed to feature 21 times this season as a result.

While it’s a concern that he only scored four goals in his outings so far as the Magpies should be looking at more prolific options to boost their goal threat, it does sound like the Premier League club have done their homework on him.

The attacker is capable of being a powerful presence for the side as he is strong in the air and has a knack for holding the ball up for his team, so he could be a success at St James Park.

Likely to happen?

No.

This report basically introduces the idea of Terrier joining the Magpies before going on to kill the thought dead in its tracks.

It seems that Lyon have no interest loaning or selling the 21-year-old out and the fact Benitez is convinced by him is completely irrelevant.

Based on the French giant’s stance you feel that it would take a mouthwatering offer for them to change their mind over Terrier which means that the Magpies’ pursuit is dead  already as a big-money simply isn’t in their repertoire as it stands.
