Newcastle United along with Huddersfield Town are keen on signing FA Empoli attacking midfielder Miha Zajc, according to Calciomercato.it.

The Italian football outlet claim that the 24-year-old playmaker wants to leave the Serie A side and that his future could lie in the Premier League with both the Magpies as well as the Terriers options.

Calciomercato report that Zajc price tag is set at 5 to 6million euros (£4.4m to £5.3m) and that it would be possible to agree to a loan deal for him that would include a clause to purchase him.

Good move for Newcastle?

Yes, Rafa Benitez’s side are screaming out for a new No.10 and Zajc could be one they could realistically get their hands on in January.

If this report is to be believed, the 24-year-old is seeking a move and with his price tag being around the £5million mark it could work within the Magpies’ likely budget.

Zajc, who has nine caps for Slovenia, has regularly featured for Emploi this season, being involved in five goals in his 19 outings, which means he could instantly hit the ground running if welcomed to St James Park in January.

The 24-year-old is a threat from free-kicks, has dazzling dribbling ability and is an accomplish passer of the ball so he could easily be a success at the Magpies.

Likely to happen?

This report makes Zajc sound like the ideal player for the Magpies to sign as all signs indicate that he is someone who is potentially moving clubs in the near future and his price tag isn’t going to break the bank.

The only issue is that in previous windows Benitez hasn’t welcomed too many new faces and until a bid is made it’s hard to be confident that the Magpies’ pursuit will end happily for them.

However given that the figures suggested are at least plausible for the Magpies, this is one of the more believable transfer links to emerge in the current window surrounding the club.
