Manchester City are in the hunt for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper’s live blog [20/1, 12.18pm] reports that the current Premier League champions are interested in signing the French passmaster, and that they are also casting their eye over his teammate Tanguy Ndombele as well.

The report adds that City boss Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the 20-year-old star after raving about him following the Champions League clashes between the two sides earlier this term – but the Ligue 1 outfit could demand a large fee if they decide to part ways with Aouar.

Good move for Manchester City?

Seeing as Guardiola is a big admirer of the player, this would be a great move for the club. He is clearly highly-rated if Lyon would want to charge a great fee for his services, and he has also netted six goals from the midfield this term. The young ace would be a great asset to any team in Europe, but joining City would mean that he would play alongside some of the best midfielders on the continent.

Likely to happen?

Even if Lyon demand an incredibly high fee, City would have no problems in matching it if they really wanted to sign Aouar. Price is not an issue for the league heavyweights, so a move looks likely to happen if Lyon decide that they are ready to sell one of their best assets. Watch this space, as City could well end up signing yet another top-class midfielder – if they are allowed to do so, of course.
