Manchester City may make a shock loan bid for Schalke midfielder Sebastian Rudy, according to The Sun.

The national newspaper claim that Man City want to sign cover for Fernandinho and have been making checks on the 28-year-old midfield enforcer as a result.

The Sun report that Man City are looking into an emergency solution due to none of the top-class Fernandinho replacements being available.

It is believed that Schalke may be open to a short-term loan for move for Rudy if there is a fee involved.

Good move for Man City?

Yes.

Man City need cover for Fernandinho just in case they lose him to injury or suspension as when he is missing from the first-team, it makes a huge difference.

Rudy, who has 27 caps for Germany, would be a fantastic temporary options to take as he is a sublime passer of the ball and tough in the challenge.

Also as The Sun states Guardiola knows the 28-year-old well from his time in Germany and this means the player could settle into the Man City boss’ system with ease.

Given that the Rudy would only be joining on a short-term basis if at all, then it’s important that Man City get a player who can hit the ground running and make the most of his time.

Likely to happen?

Rudy may be struggling for form at Schalke this season but it’s hard to imagine the German club be willing to sanction a loan deal unless a really lucrative fee is table.

While it’s true that Guardiola does need cover for Fernandinho, paying a lot of money to borrow the services of the midfield enforcers seems a little too drastic and perhaps there are better targets out there to get.

There’s no denying that the Man City’s boss’ first-choice options are likely unavailable, given it’s the January window, but surely throwing money at a temporary fix is just desperation if anything.
