OPINION
There was plenty of social media love for Fabinho after his performance as an emergency centre-back in Liverpool’s win over Brighton. Rightly so. The Brazilian midfielder dropped back into defence, just as he had for the first time in Monday’s FA Cup defeat to Wolves, and was masterful. Only once was he really caught out of position and the rest of the time he was in complete control. The summer-of-2018 signing made some excellent interceptions, was dominant aerially and brought the ball out from the back with all the assurance you would expect of a man who plays in central midfield for a living. This was Fabinho’s ninth league start and he is certainly starting to look the part, wherever Jurgen Klopp plays him. With Joel Matip on the bench at the Amex Stadium and Joe Gomez on the comeback trail, normal service should soon be resumed in terms of the centre-back position, but Fabinho did as much as anyone to ensure Liverpool got straight back to winning ways.
