Liverpool can build a dynasty by blowing Bayern Munich out of the water to sign Chelsea attacker Callum Hudson-Odoi this week.

The Merseyside giants were linked with the 18-year-old last week by German newspaper Bild, who claimed they held talks with the player and his agent brother earlier this month.

Liverpool have subsequently distanced themselves through interest in Hudson-Odoi, who has been the subject of a £35million bid from Bayern.

Transfer supremo Michael Edwards does not do his business in public, and prefers to operate well away from the limelight. Rightly so.

But this is one player that he and the club should be pushing hard to sign ahead of the Thursday night transfer cut-off.

Hudson-Odoi is a dazzling talent who could immediately challenge for a first-team place at Anfield and has the potential to be a Champions League and international superstar.

In just five starts out of 16 Chelsea appearances, the teenage winger has already scored three goals and supplied five assists, enhancing his reputation with their third goal in Sunday’s FA Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday.

But the youngster doesn’t want a bit-part role in west London. He wants the spotlight right now and, to that effect, BBC Sport report he has handed in a transfer request as he seeks a late-window move.

Liverpool signed Dominic Solanke from Chelsea two summers ago, but Hudson-Odoi is a talent on a completely different level.

He can help the Merseyside giants build upon this magnificent campaign by replacing exit-bound Daniel Sturridge, another former Blue, in the Anfield set-up.

If he realises his potential, Jurgen Klopp’s side could be unstoppable for years to come.
