Everton are set to launch a £25million move to try and snap up the signing of top January target Borja Iglesias as manager Marco Silva desperately looks to recruit a new centre forward, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim on their website that the 25-year-old Espanyol hitman is the Toffee’s number one priority this month, having seen him net nine goals for the La Liga side this season and that they are willing to meet the £25million release clause in his contract to get a deal over the line.

It is said that Silva’s transfer team will have to convince the forward to move this month rather than waiting until the summer, as he looks for someone to lead the line and allow Richarlison to move out wide once again.

Good move for Everton?

Nine goals in his 18 top flight appearances in Spain is by no means a fantastic record, but it is also nothing to be scoffed at.

He is not playing with the best that La Liga has to offer and perhaps with more quality service he would flourish – although the English top flight will be different to what he is experiencing right now.

Of course, Everton have not had great luck recruiting strikers from Spain recently, Sandro Ramirez failing to make any sort of an impact at Goodison Park and so that £25million price tag is something of a gamble.

If he was truly prolific and with plenty of experience then maybe it would be worth it but with just 19 La Liga appearances to his name, having spent much of his career in the second and third tier of Spain, it is just too much money to spend.

Likely to happen?

It seems that even with a release clause that Everton are said to be happy to meet, he will take some convincing of moving to Goodison Park.

Money talks and the Toffees can of course offer him plenty more than he will currently be picking up, but there might be other elements which do not work in their favour.

A difficult one to judge.
