Liverpool sensation Ki-Jana Hoever will sign a new contract with the club when he turns 17 later this month, according to the Echo.

The regional newspaper report that the Dutch youth international is to pen his first professional contract as he is rewarded for the huge impression he has made since signing from Ajax last summer.

The Echo report the 16-year-old has won Jurgen Klopp over with his “character and attitude” and the manager had no hesitation in handing him his senior debut in Monday’s FA Cup defeat to Wolves.

OPINION

Watching Hoever stroll through his senior Liverpool bow on Monday, it is easy to see how youth-team manager Neil Critchley summed up the rookie in three succinct words; “Unbelievable. Sixteen. Wow.” No doubt, the youngster is a potential star-in-the-making. The way in which he settled in at centre-back in a back four unrecognisable from the one that has been the best in the Premier League this season demonstrated his rare ability. However’s positioning, awareness, pace and confidence on the ball all caught the eye in a game in which Liverpool played fairly poorly and Wolves made life difficult for the visitors. Of three youngsters on view at Molineux, as Klopp also handed debuts to Rafael Camacho and Curtis Jones, Hoever was comfortably the most impressive, and it will be immensely encouraging to the Liverpool coaching staff that he has made the step up from youth-team to first-team football look such an easy one. He is a youngster destined for the very top.
