Former Tottenham midfielder Micky Hazard urged Spurs to sign AS Roma forward Edin Dzeko instead of them potentially making a move for West Ham attacker Andy Carroll as he would fit in better.

The 58-year-old while on Ian Stone’s Comedy Breakfast on LOVESportRadio revealed that if he was Spurs manager he’d be looking at the 32-year-old former Manchester City attacker as he thought he was a top player and that he wasn’t in the current Roma team.

Hazard shared that he personally wouldn’t go near Hammers forward Andy Carroll, who according to The Sun is on Spurs’ radar, as he believes the 30-year-old wouldn’t fit the club’s style of play.

“I’d like to see Edin Dzeko come in. I think he’s a top player and I don’t think he’s in the team at the moment [at Roma],” said the retired midfielder, as transcribed by LOVESportRadio’s website.

“Thankfully it’s not my decision but if I was manager of Spurs I wouldn’t be looking to Andy Carroll.

“I don’t think he’d fit into our way of playing. He might do us a job during this period when we’ve got an absolutely incredible injury list and Son away which compounds it.

“But I am a bit of a purist and I have a style of play that I like to see and I think Dzeko would fit in better than Andy Carroll.”

OPINION

It’s fair to say Spurs fans will likely agree with Hazard as they would rather see the 6ft 4in tall Dzeko (Source:Transfermarkt) rock up at the club rather than the injury-prone Carroll if they had a choice. While Hazard reveals he thinks Dzeko isn’t in the current Roma team, he did play for the full 90 minutes of their last league outing against Torino so he is still in the Italian side’s plans clearly. However given that he is 32-years-old, Roma would probably consider an offer for him if the right one emerged. While this maybe the case Spurs seem unlikely to be the team that submits a tempting enough off to sign the forward anytime soon and you feel the London club may try to make it do with the options they have despite Harry Kane being out injured currently. Even though it wouldn’t be a popular decision, if Spurs were going to sign a new forward Carroll does seem more likely. The 30-year-old is yet to score a goal in any of his nine Premier League outing this season and with his contract set to expire in the summer, the Hammers may be willing to do a deal with their London rivals for him.
