Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye is set to be at the heart of a transfer battle between Premier League and London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal as the two clubs register their interest in a move before deadline day, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claim on their live transfer blog (29/01, 19:48) that the top six sides are both keen on a move for the 29-year-old Toffees senior star, who has been heavily linked with a move away from Goodison Park this month with French heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain touted to make a move.

Gueye has been a regular for Marco Silva’s men but was missing from the starting XI against Huddersfield on Tuesday evening.

Opinion

Maybe Everton fans will be hoping that PSG do come in with another bid for his capture for there would be nothing worse than watching him shine for another Premier League side. One thing seems certain and that is that Gueye will get his move away from Goodison Park this month – it just depends on the destination. Obviously he is settled in England and a move to London could offer him much more money in terms of wages, while Everton will know that selling him to Arsenal or Chelsea will get them more than they would by offloading him to France, with PSG having to abide by strict financial regulations. On the other hand, do they really want to be strengthening their league rivals? It is a difficult situation for the Toffees and this fresh twist will leave them scratching their heads over what to do.
