Newcastle United must try and sign Leicester City left-back Christian Fuchs in the current transfer window, especially as they are in dire need of reinforcements in this position.

Paul Dummett is the only quality player left in this role if you discount the likes of Javier Manquillo, and that is simply not good enough for a team aiming to stay in the Premier League this season.

One player that they must consider is Fuchs, who has been usurped as first choice for the Foxes due to the incredible form of Ben Chilwell in recent times – meaning he has only made five appearances in all competitions so far this season.

This will no doubt be frustrating for the 32-year-old, especially as he was a key part of Leicester’s title winning campaign a few seasons back.

Nevertheless, the available Fuchs will obviously be seeking a move away from the King Power Stadium this winter, and the Magpies should be the club that comes to his rescue.

He is unlikely to force his way into Claude Puel’s thoughts any time soon, so what better club to sign for than Newcastle?

The 6ft 2in [Transfermarkt] star’s top-flight experience would ensure that he has no problems settling into life under Rafa Benitez, and it is no doubt a trait that the Spaniard would value greatly.

Fuchs is currently on £50,000-a-week [Spotrac] at Leicester, which is a wage that Newcastle would be capable of matching in order to bring the player to St James’ Park.

Benitez would be onto a blinder by plotting a raid on their rivals for Fuchs, and with his experience of the game, he would transform Newcastle in an instant.

This swoop is essentially a no-brainer, so Newcastle must move swiftly before any other club comes sniffing.
