COMMENTARY
Many Everton fans showed no mercy on social media when delivering their verdict on how Gylfi Sigurdsson performed against Millwall on Saturday. One claimed the 29-year-old attacking midfielder look scared to put a foot in against Millwall, while another claimed even if the Toffees sold him to Barnsley for £500,000, they’d be getting the better deal. While the criticism was very harsh it is easy to see why Sigurdsson had managed to anger so many Toffees supporters with his latest display. As several pointed out it was hard to remember that the 29-year-old was featuring for Marco Silva’s side as the game passed him by. Given that Sigurdsson is clearly a talented and experienced player, he should be excelling and standing out in games against lower-ranked opposition. Yet that wasn’t the case in the 3-2 loss to Millwall and after the rest of his 25 displays this season have been mostly poor as well, it’s not like Sigurdsson has earned being cut any slack from supporters.
