Everton youth striker Shayne Lavery has left the club to join Scottish Championship side Falkirk on loan for the rest of the season.

The Toffees announced the deal through their official club website.

The 20-year-old striker completed his move north of the border on Friday with the hopes of kickstarting his senior career.

The U23s forward won his first full international cap for Northern Ireland in a friendly against Panama, but has yet to make a senior appearance for the Blues.

Lavery has also struggled to make an impact for the Everton scoring just one goal in 10 matches in all competitions.

OPINION

Lavery’s move could prove to be a very positive move for the striker. He clearly has the potential to be a top player, but at the age of 20 time is not on his side if he is to make a breakthrough at the Premier League club. A move to Scotland could give him the opportunity to kickstart a career that is threatening to falter, and to find some much needed goalscoring form. From Everton’s point of view, the chance for Lavery to gain some much needed first team experience could be a massive plus, especially as they continue to search for a realistic long term striking option. The Northern Irish man may not seem like the most obvious candidate, but if he can start firing and find some confidence north of the border, it could be the first step towards him becoming a real threat on Merseyside in the future.
