Everton seem to be in a battle to keep midfielder Idrissa Gueye with Paris Saint-Germain appearing determined to get a hold of him.

Every time it looks like PSG are looking elsewhere or their pursuit of the defensive-minded midfielder has stopped in its tracks, a report emerges to suggest they still are trying to get his signature.

Yahoo Sport France reported on Tuesday that Gueye was keen on an exit and have even agreed a four-and-a-half-year contract with them in principle despite them having difficulty getting the Toffees to accept a bid.

PSG’s latest reported bid, as covered by L’Equipe, was thought to be in the region of £22million which was drastically short of the Toffees’ £30.7million valuation of their star man.

Given that it hasn’t since emerged that bid was accepted, it’s clear to say the Toffees resist that offer as they’d rather hold on to Gueye.

Yet PSG’s latest offer was notably short, with the player apparently keen on joining them it’s still was easy to fear the Toffees could let him go if they got at least closer to the club’s asking price.

However Sky Sports provided an update on the French giant’s pursuit of the midfielder, who currently earns £45,000-a-week (source: Spotrac), to share they can’t bid any more than £26million.

This is because PSG have concerns regarding Financial Fair Play rules lurking over them and they simply can’t go any higher.

So while Sky does dismiss claims made about a bid being made, even if one was about to occur or has indeed happened, it’s easy to believe that it shouldn’t be too hard for the Toffees to resist as it’s clear Gueye should be valued higher than £26million.

Therefore it seems Marco Silva’s side will surely win the battle to keep their talented midfielder as PSG simply don’t have the resources to tempt them.
