Everton are readying an offer for Manchester City rising star Rabbi Matondo, according to the Sun.

The national newspaper claim the Merseysiders are in the race to sign the the blisteringly quick forward, whose contract at the Premier League champions expires at the end of the season.

The Sun report Bayern Munich and Southampton are also weighing up formal moves for the 18-year-old as he continues in talks with City over an extension to his current deal.

Good move for Everton?

Matondo is a hugely talented young player. He may not have made his senior City bow, but already has a full Wales cap under his belt and a track record in youth-team football that has got major clubs seriously interested. Blisteringly quick, technically good and with a real eye for goal, Matondo plays predominantly on the right wing. He has scored nine goals in 21 City youth-team matches this season as well as supplied six assists, proof of a player who can deliver the goods in and around the box. Everton are in need of top players for the future, and they would produce a real coup if they snapped up Matondo either this month or at the end of the season.

Likely to happen?

If Matondo doesn’t extend his deal with City, then Everton are well placed to sign the youngster, even though there is some serious competition for his services. Jadon Sancho has blazed a trail by heading to the Bundesliga, showing City teenagers and other gifted youngsters kicking their heels that they can get regular senior football elsewhere if they move on. Expect Matondo to be sorely tempted by a transfer.
