Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye has written to the Goodison Park chiefs with a plea to allow him to move to French giants Paris Saint-Germain this month, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claim on their live transfer blog (28/01, 21:25) that the 29-year-old has not submitted an official transfer request but instead has appealed for them not to block what is deemed to be a dream move for the Toffees mainstay.

It is stated that Everton rejected a £21.5million offer from the Ligue 1 leaders for the Senegal international, with Thursday’s deadline for transfers creeping ever closer.

Opinion

This is a real last throw of the dice from Gueye, who is doing everything he can apart from submit an official request to demand his exit this month. It is quite clear where his heart is right now and while Everton are well within their rights to refuse any offers they deem below what he is worth, they also do not want an unhappy player on their books. The Toffees need to make it clear to the Senegal star what they plan to do with him and how much it will cost PSG to snap up his signing. Then he and his representatives can go to the French side and find out if they are going to pay up. If not, then he should accept it and focus on his job at Goodison Park. This saga needs to come to an end sooner rather than later, for it is no doubt disrupting the rest of the squad behind the scenes. Do they back Gueye’s move away or are they getting frustrated he is angling for an exit? Only the players know the answer to that question – but it could well be reflected in future games.
