Everton have agreed terms with Premier League rivals Cardiff City over a loan deal for Senegal international Oumar Niasse, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claim on their live transfer blog (18:17) that the two top flight sides have come to an agreement over the 28-year-old moving to the Welsh outfit until the end of the season and that a medical has been scheduled for later on Wednesday evening.

Niasse, a nine-cap star for Senegal, has only appeared seven times for the Toffees this season, his last Premier League outing a 10 minute cameo against Brighton in December.

Opinion

Niasse never looked like making it under Marco Silva and it should come as no surprise to see him leaving Goodison Park this month. The real shock should be that another Premier League side have chosen to take him on, with just 12 goals in 49 appearances in the top flight, and that Everton have not tried to get him out the door on a permanent deal. He just lacks the cutting edge needed among England’s elite and if the Bluebirds truly feel he is the answer to their attacking struggles, as one of the lowest scoring teams in the Premier League, then they are in for a nasty shock. Still, the player should pick up plenty more game time at Cardiff and perhaps some confidence can see him net a few goals in their battle for survival. Will he be enough for Neil Warnock? Probably not and so the manager best have some more ideas up his sleeves if he is to scramble his way away from the drop zone between now and the end of the season.
